Outnumbered Two to One

Yes. We decided to give the art museum another go. This time venturing south to visit MAM - the Miami Art Museum in lovely downtown Miami. They are currently hosting a “Shadows, Disappearances and Illusions” exhibit, that we thought might be entertaining for the children, an entertaining educational experience, which to the kids is very much a contradiction.

When we show up we discover, quite happily, that the second Saturday of the month is family day. Family day? Family day = free admission. Family day = child centered art activities. Family day = lots of kids besides mine that are running amok trying to touch things they shouldn’t, therefore taking some of the focus off my rampaging offspring.

Woo-hoo. Can I get a woo-hoo?

Talk about kid friendly. These folks had an activity room for the kids on each floor, complete with crayons, paper, glue, and magnets to proudly display their masterpieces within the museum for future visitors. They also had a flashlight for making shadow puppets, a sandbox, and a bunch of dominoes. 

And the art was good too. I didn’t totally understand all of it, but that’s what the little placards on the wall are for.

Overall, we had a good time. My little one, of course, wanted to do nothing but pound on things with his tiny fists. Hulk smash! My teen, well, lets just say at one point I thought for sure she was staring at her own brain, her eyes were rolled that far back in her head. Her response, “I don’t care about any of this.” Talk about a killjoy.

Still, I’m pretty sure she got some culture on her. I won’t mention it to her though, she might try to scrub it off.
