Little Debbie Has a Snack For YOU!
I am a sugar junkie. There’s no way around it.
Don’t worry, I’m not ready for an intervention just yet. When I start pawning my own children to buy a case of fudge covered Oreos, I’ll let you know. For now my addiction is well within the “controlled” range.
Or is it?
Sitting down at my computer this evening, I realized I hadn’t had dessert yet and therefore sinned against my palate. Oh forgive me taste buds for my cruel indifference. I headed over to the fridge only to find lo and behold I’d forgotten to pick up rice pudding, my favorite bedtime treat, on my recent trip to BJs. Bummer.
In the pantry, though, I discover not just one box of Little Debbie snacks, but TWO. Two boxes of snacks - muuhuuhuuhaahaa - cue the lightning (my Count interpretation - yes I’m a Sesame Street fan). Anyway, one box is filled with ginormous oatmeal pies, the other with sticky honey buns. Of course I couldn’t just make my decision on the fly, so I consulted the dreaded nutritional information box.
What a mistake that was.
Aside from the fact that they contain more calories than one person should ingest from a single prepackaged food source, they’re loaded with fat, and made up of a slew of ingredients I can’t pronounce.
That can’t be good for you, right?
But then again that sweet little girl in the straw hat that graces the packaging, she wouldn’t steer me wrong, would she?
Yes, I know she’s a two dimensional marketing tool designed to comfort me as I fill my belly with her terrible tasty treats. But still.
I’d like to say I took a stand against poor eating habits and trashed both boxes without a second glance. I’d like to say that.
But no, I went with the honey bun and it was delicious.
I think the trick to not eating unhealthy foods is, you know, not buying them.
