One minute it was there, the next it was gone.

I’m talking about my internet service. Monday morning I was happily perusing the blogosphere when suddenly my pages stopped loading. After much tinkering with the cables, I decided to call tech support. I have to say I was a little underwhelmed by their scripted approach to trouble shooting.

Remove the cables, switch the cables, reattach the cables, disable the modem, enable the modem, disable it again. Ma’am, can I put you on hold?

Ma’am? Yikes.

Three technicians showed up over the course of the next two days before they came to the conclusion that one of our neighbors had accidentally severed the line while he was laying some concrete in his backyard. Do I have to tell you it was a female tech that actually resolved the issue? The guy before her shrugged off the job when he couldn’t get access to the damaged line, then he tried to chat me up about his new baby’s ravenous appetite and his three year old’s reluctance to eat solids.

In any case, my internet Explorer is up and running, and I no longer feel cut off from the rest of the virtual world. I didn’t realize how much I’ve come to depend on web access until I was shut out. My day was no longer punctuated by brief visits to the PC, instead I kept wandering from room to room like maybe I’d lost something. Possibly my sanity?

Update on Stupid Mom Moments

My son’s game arrived in the mail today while we were out getting the boys haircuts. He was ecstatic to say the least. The used game came complete with instructions and the original sealed packet of collectible Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. This disc remained wonderfully intact. Since I refused to pry it out with my gorilla fingers, my son was actually able to play it while being none the wiser that I shattered the first copy in under two minutes of its arrival. I’m still kicking myself for having to buy the same silly game twice. Shame on me.
