Hello New Year, Sorry I’m Late - Spin Cycle

Published by mrsbear0309 at 6:29 pm under All About Mom, Parenting, Spin Cycle Edit This

Seems a little odd to ring in the new year the second of January, but we at the Bear house scoff at tradition, especially considering the difficulty we had putting 2008 out on its crummy keister. That ill-tempered house guest simply would not vacate the premises, luckily we had inevitability on our side, phooey on you old man last year, and 09 was at last granted access.

Currently I’m only an hour out of my pajamas. I’ve spent the day cleaning and folding laundry and feeling at odds with the calendar and the clock. It’s one of the unwanted side-effects of winter breaks, or any recess from school for that matter. Routine goes out the window, along with the better part of my sanity because without our rigorous schedule it seems the days simply lose their identity. Saturday, Monday, Friday, they all meld in to a single indecipherable string of day and night and accidental meals. With no where to go, no timetable to adhere to, we’re all pretty much doomed to loaf and constantly inquire of each other what day it is or what hour has passed.

Technically I know it’s 2009. On paper we’ve just gotten a year closer to ending the decade, scary in and of itself. Yet, here in the house, while the holiday break finally draws to a close, it’s not a new year until Monday January fifth, when the kids (barring any re-infections) at last go back to school. And while the mornings will pose their own set of difficulties it will be nice to have 75% of my children out of the house…and me out of my pajamas before dinner time.

So as far as resolutions go, they’ve got zero chance of accomplishment before Monday. I’ve never gone so far as to commit these ambitions to writing, seems too much like setting myself up for ridicule, particularly if the goals are overly specific - meaning deadlines, diagrams, pie charts - but then again I’ve never had a blog to broadcast them on.

Suffice to say, I want some things to be different, I want others to stay the same, I want less of some things and more of others. I want to change the things I can control, I want to accept the screwed up things beyond my power, and of course I want to keep my sense of humor at all times. Because laughing is therapy and it keeps the sanity in tight reign.

Because 09 will be the year I giggle and grin and guffaw and hopefully find the inspiration to write that breakout novel that will fund an addition for our tiny house brimming with children.

I can dream, can’t I?

Wishing you all lots of laughs in 2009. Happy New Year, in case I forgot to mention it…

I couldn’t have written this any better myself. 2008 was a sucky year that just wouldn’t go away. Right down to the last week. It sucked everything right out of me (literally)! My kids go back to school in 2 days 13 hours and 45 seconds. Can you tell I am a little anxious? Happy New Year!

You had me at ‘…2008 out on its crummy keister.’

Here’s hoping for an infinitely better 2009. Happy New Year!

Great post!!! Happy New Year to you and your family. I agree. The resolutions whether written or not should not be even considered until the Monday following the new year.

Better late than never! Sorry to hear you guys were so sick for the holidays–we got a bit of it here as well, but not as bad as you!

Here’s to 2009 kicking 2008’s sorry ass! Happy New Year!

Amen, sister. My days have been running into one big puddle since I quit my job in May. Weekends no longer hold that magical feeling that I can do whatever and not have to work since I’m on the clock 24/7 with these damn kids. I’m glad to hear you’re doing/feeling a bit better and here’s to a better year. Ours has started its same old shitty way but I’m hoping it’ll turn itself around.

Welcome back! This post is so perfectly worded, I love the way you write! Especially with losing track of days. I remember when I was on maternity leave and had to recall what month I was in! Of course this fits and of course you’re linked!

OhSOglad to see you getting your funny back! I hope 2009 has it all over 2008, and you get that novel finished. You basically finished my thoughts about this next spin cycle LOL, so thanx! Happy New Year and healthy vibes to you!

I can’t wait until everyone goes back to school (and work, my husband has been home too). Routine totally goes out the window, but somehow, my work doesn’t stop.

I am waiting with baited breath for your breakout novel! You know I will give it a good review.

  13. Amyon 03 Jan 2009 at 11:40 am edit this

I will be happy to send children back to school as well. Although, I will be going back to work, too. I hope everyone is doing better and your new year starts off with a bang!

I always feel guilty for wanting Meggers to be back at school (hmmmm inspiration for the next spin cycle me thinks..lol) however I’m right there with you I need to get some structure and scheduling back into our household.

Good luck with the novel hope it happens for you in 2009. ;o)

There is nothing like the unending days of a break–especially since I am a teacher and get to luxuriate as much as my students. And since I am not as mean as they think, I assigned no homework.

This year, yes, keep the laughter and the light side coming. Oh, and good luck on the breakout novel, maybe we’ll meet on Oprah when I’m there to talk about my bestselling memoir.

Happy New Year! Hey–better late than never. I agree with you about every day melting in one. I am SO off my daily routine… I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Anywho–have a wonderful 2009!

Ahhh, yes, let’s try to laugh more in 09. Lets start now! LOL! ha ha hah a! There I feel better already. Keep smilin, I think we’re all in pretty much the same (sinking) boat, lol. Humor is what will keep us all afloat!

I could not agree with you more! Wonderfully written, as usual, and boy am I looking forward to January 5th! Little Princess goes back to school (granted, that only gives me 3 hours all to myself), but more importantly hubby goes back to work…he ‘hovers’ way too much when he’s home, I get nothing done! LOL!!!!

HUGZ to you, here’s hoping 2009 is everything you hope it to be! ;)

My husband and I both work shifts. We rotate between 12 hour days and 12 hour nights, every other week. And then we have a whole week off. I never know what day it is, or what month, or sometimes even if it’s day or night. Love your resolutions, and I hope this is a better year for all of us!

Yeah I know what you mean. When I had kids that age, I would go back to work on Monday and think, “thank God the weekend is over!”

Hang in there girl! Hopefully tomorrow you get some down time:)

You sure hit the nail on the head. The new year doesn’t start until all these people go back to school and work! LOL Have a great 2009.

Boy was 2008 a stinkeroo. I agree with hope for a wonderful 2009! May your breakthrough novel fund a ginormous addition!
